Dr. Jackhammer

This week was a great week and a lot was accomplished. We were able to get both the bathrooms framed. The bathroom on the left will have a shower in it and the bathroom on the right will be our handicapped bathroom.

Once the bathrooms were completed we had the electrician come in and start wiring all of our lights and wall outlets.

Sunday and Monday we had back to back shoveling days. I don't mean "Virtual" Shoveling like the website prescribes. I mean actual shoveling. First we had to shovel outside both Sunday and Monday morning since it snowed both nights.
Then we were able to get an air compressor so we could start jackhammering the bathroom floors for the plumber to come in.

Here is Nate working hard on the floor. He was the self proclaimed "DR. Jackhammer" since he was very accurate with his stone cutting precision.

Once the concrete was cut we finished off the weekend by doing some more actual shoveling and digging out a trench where the bathroom pipes will go. All in all the progress continues at a steady pace. Hopefully this week the plumber and electrician can finish their jobs so we can have the city come and inspect.
I Hope it all goes well.

Construction Has Begun!

The weekend started early when the lumber arrived at 8 am. Nate and his dad got to work quickly and set the pace.

Here is a picture of Nate's Dad hard at work. He is the brains behind the construction operation.

We got all the studs lined up for the first wall and everything began to fall into place.

Once we got the hang of it the wall went up very quickly. One wall down two more to go.

Here is Mike Higgins and Mike Spalatro putting up wall number two.

Finally wall number two was completed.

Here is Nate's Dad yelling at us to stop eating lunch and get back to work. This guy never stops working.

Finally all three walls are up. It is actually starting to look like a gym now.

The weekend comes to a close and we have the three walls completed. This was a big accomplishment. This week the two bathrooms will get framed and the plumber and electrician will come in and run all their pipes and wires. Hopefully in two weeks we will be putting up sheet rock.

We've got the Power

Today we made some more progress. The city finally came in and moved our water meter and the gas company came in and moved our gas meter. The electrician also came in and gave us power. Now we actually have heat, electricity, and water. Nate Reando and Mike Spalatro will power wash the whole place tomorrow in preperation for the buildout.

The real fun begins Saturday when the lumber arrives at 8 am. I hope to have some more pictures of the construction.

Demolition Complete

Day two of demolition began as a nice sunny January day in the gym.

Now that the walls and ceiling were down we had to meticulously go around the ceiling ripping out the old wiring and all the screws that held the drop ceiling in.

Nate began sweeping while Mike Spalatro and I went and picked up the staging needed to reach the ceiling. Mike and I were amazed to see Nate had the whole place swept by the time we returned. Awesome Job!

Once we got the scafolding up everyone went to work.

EVEN MIKE HIGGINS!!

Nate and Mike Spalatro also got themselves nice and dirty. Don't worry guys as soon as were done you can go home and relax. Wait! No you can't we still have to do todays WOD!!

Finally the day was complete and we had acomplished our mission. The gym is completely gutted. Now we just have to wait for the city to come in and replace a water meter and the plumber can come in and do his thing. Hopefully by the end of the week Nate and his dad will begin the buildout. I will continue to post the progress as it is completed. Keep checking back.

Time to go workout 3-2-1-GO!

Day One

This blog is to document the building of our CrossFit Gym in Worcester MA. The gym is located on Shrewsbury St. in an old garage. Heres a pic of the outside of the building.
Today we started the demolition of the gym. Nate, Mike, and I got a good start on ripping the walls and ceiling down.

We were even joined later by Kyle and Terrance. So far we are off to a good start.

It was a long day and we finally got the ceiling and the three walls down.

We even had to get a second dumpster because one wasn't enough. Thanks Joe for the quick turnover.

Tomorrow will be more cleanup so hopefully we can begin the buildout on Monday.
